A short guide to what data can be measured in the new Google Analytics (GA4)

During October 2020 Google released the latest version of their Analytics product ‘GA4’. This is now the only option to collect analytics data as the previous product ‘Universal Analytics’ stopped collecting data in July 2023.

However, data/settings from Universal Analytics have not been removed and it is possible to link your new GA4 account with your Universal Analytics account so there is a continuity of data.

In the new Google Analytics (GA4) there are four principle areas within the User Interface; Home (which is basically just the dashboard), Reports, Explore and Advertising. We are going to focus on reports initially as that is where we will find all of our key user information.

Reports

Lifecycle > Engagement

This is where you can see your users interact with your pages including, pages views, events fired and any conversions.

Lifecycle > Acquisition

This is where you can see where your users are coming from.

Lifecycle > Monetisation

This is where you can see transactions of any monetary value.

In October 2020 Google Analytics released the latest version of the Analytics code GA4.

This is a Referral URL so we can track a click on a button on an external domain and identify that as a conversion with GA4.
